Characteristics: Darmera peltata is a rhizomatous perennial native to mountain stream banks and woodlands from southwestern Oregon to northern California. It features large, rounded leaves that can reach up to 18 inches (45 cm) across, with toothed and lobed edges. These leaves form a foliage mound that remains attractive throughout the growing season and turns red in the fall. In early spring, before the foliage emerges, clusters of pale pink to white flowers appear on tall, bare stems.
Water: Prefers moist, well-drained soil; thrives in wet or moist locations, such as pond margins and bog gardens.
Fertilize: Generally does not require fertilization; applying mulch can help retain soil moisture.
