Evergreens FAQ'S

What are evergreen shrubs?

Evergreen shrubs keep their foliage year-round, providing structure, privacy, and colour even in winter.

Do evergreen shrubs survive New Brunswick winters?

Yes, many evergreen shrubs are hardy in Zone 5. Choose varieties suited to our climate, and plant in well-drained soil to prevent winter root rot.

Do they need special care in winter?

Some evergreens, especially broadleaf types, benefit from winter protection like burlap wraps or anti-desiccant sprays to reduce moisture loss from leaves. Mulch helps insulate roots.

When should I prune evergreen shrubs?

Light pruning can be done in early spring before new growth.

Avoid heavy pruning in late summer or fall, as it may encourage tender growth vulnerable to winter damage.
