Rose FAQ'S

What types of roses grow well in New Brunswick?

Hardy shrub roses, Canadian-bred varieties (like the Explorer or Canadian Artist series), and rugosa roses perform best in Zone 5. These are bred to handle cold winters and resist disease.

How much sun do roses need?

Roses need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for strong blooming. Morning sun is especially important to dry dew and prevent disease.

When and how do I prune roses?

Prune in early spring when buds begin to swell. Remove dead or weak stems and shape the plant.

For continuous bloomers, deadhead spent flowers during the growing season.

How do I protect roses over winter in New Brunswick?

For hardy roses, mound soil or mulch around the base after the ground freezes.

Tender varieties may need extra insulation like rose cones, burlap, or additional mulch layers.
