Larix laricina

Tamarack is a hardy, native deciduous conifer that produces soft, bright green needles in spring and summer before turning a beautiful golden-yellow in autumn and dropping in winter. It is well suited to cool climates and moist landscapes.

Approximate Maximum Height: 25 m
Zone(s): Zone 1-5

Lighting: Full sun. Tamarack grows best with plenty of direct sunlight and does not perform well in heavy shade.

Germination: Seeds usually require cold stratification for approximately 30-60 days before sowing. Germination typically occurs within 2-4 weeks after stratification when kept in suitable conditions.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, particularly during germination and establishment. Tamarack prefers moist to wet soils and can tolerate poorly drained conditions, but established trees can tolerate some drier periods.
