Pinus resinosa
Red pine is a tall, long-lived native evergreen tree with straight, reddish-brown bark and clusters of long, slender, dark green needles. It is valued for timber, windbreaks, reforestation, and wildlife habitat.
Approximate Maximum Height: Up to 35 m
About the Seed: De-Winged
Zone(s): Zone 2-6
Lighting: Full sun. Red pine grows best with abundant direct sunlight and does not tolerate heavy shade.
Germination: Seeds benefit from cold stratification for approximately 30–60 days. Sow shallowly in well-draining soil and keep consistently moist. Germination generally occurs within 2–4 weeks after stratification when conditions are favourable.
Watering: Keep the growing medium consistently moist but never waterlogged during germination and early seedling growth. Once established, red pine is relatively drought tolerant, requiring additional watering mainly during prolonged periods of dry weather.
