Terrestrial jungle-floor orchids grown primarily for their striking foliage rather than their blooms. Under ambient lighting, these veins exhibit an optical phenomenon that makes them look iridescent and alive—resembling tiny electric current boards or sudden lightning strikes.

It is highly recommended to keep it inside an enclosed glass terrarium, terrarium tank, or under a protective glass cloche to lock in moisture.  Use a highly porous, well-draining, and airy medium. Pure sphagnum moss mixed with perlite or a blend of peat moss, perlite, and fine orchid bark works exceptionally well. Grow them in wide, shallow pots or terracotta saucers since their root systems are shallow and creeping. Jewel orchids have highly sensitive root systems that are easily damaged by the synthetic chemicals and heavy minerals found in municipal water. It is best to use distilled water that is at room temperature.

Because blooming takes significant energy, the surrounding foliage may temporarily stop growing or die back slightly. Many collectors choose to snip the flower spike early to conserve the plant's resources and prioritize vibrant leaf growth.

What To Look For: White, cottony or waxy masses on stems, leaf axils, underside of leaves. Sticky honeydew, sooty mold growth, yellowing or dropping leaves.

How To Treat: Use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to dab and remove visible bugs. Wash leaves and stems with gentle soapy water. In heavy infestations, consider removing very affected stems/leaves or, in the worst case, replacing the plant.
