Drosera, commonly known as Sundew, is an assorted group of carnivorous plants known for their unique leaves covered in sticky, glistening droplets that resemble dew. These droplets attract and trap small insects, which the plant digests to obtain nutrients. Drosera varieties feature a range of leaf shapes, colours, and growth habits, making them fascinating additions to a carnivorous plant collection.

Lighting: Requires bright light, ideally 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily or strong, bright artificial grow lights. Adequate lighting helps maintain healthy growth and vibrant red colouring in many varieties. Gradually acclimatize plants to stronger sunlight to prevent leaf damage.

Water: Keep the growing medium consistently moist or wet. Use distilled water, reverse osmosis water, or rainwater, as Drosera are sensitive to minerals and salts found in tap water. Place the pot in a shallow tray containing approximately 1–2.5 cm of water during active growth, replenishing as needed. Never allow the growing medium to dry out completely.

Soil: Use an acidic, nutrient-poor carnivorous plant mix, such as a blend of unfertilized sphagnum peat moss and perlite or silica sand. Avoid standard potting soil, compost, and fertilized mixes, as excess nutrients and minerals can damage the roots.
