A beautiful-looking, late-maturing cabbage first introduced to gardeners around 1850, Late Flat Dutch Cabbage produces an impressive harvest. The large head tends to be flatter than other varieties, growing up to 30 cm across and weighing in at a stunning 5.4 kg! This is an excellent cabbage for long-term winter storage.

  • Type: Heirloom Vegetable, Open Pollinated
  • Head Size: Up to 30 cm across, up to 5.4 kg, flat-headed
  • Features: Extremely large heads; excellent for long-term winter storage.

Due to its late maturity, this variety is best started indoors to ensure a successful fall harvest.

Planting: Sow seed indoors in a soil-less mix 5 weeks before your last frost date. Sow seeds 6 mm deep and keep at 20°C for the 7-10 day germination period. Grow on at a slightly cooler temperature, then harden off and plant outside in late May.

Care: Space plants 45 cm apart in rows, with the rows 75 cm apart.

The Late Flat Dutch is the perfect choice for the gardener who wants a truly abundant and long-lasting harvest. The sheer size of the heads is a sight to behold, providing a generous yield from a single plant. Its well-earned reputation for excellent winter storage means you can enjoy the fresh taste of your garden well into the colder months. This is a classic heirloom that delivers a reliable and impressive harvest.
