Scientific Name: Jamesbrittenia hybrid ‘Safari Dusk’
Common Name: South African Phlox
Exposure: Full sun to partial sun
Blooming Time: May to October
Bloom Duration: 5 to 6 months
Fragrance: Mild, lightly sweet fragrance
Plant Growing Habit: Compact, mounded, trailing
Characteristics: Produces masses of dusky purple flowers with bright golden-yellow centres over fine green foliage. Heat and humidity-tolerant, continuous blooming, self-cleaning, and highly attractive to butterflies and pollinators. Excellent for containers, hanging baskets, borders, and mixed planters.
Spacing: 15 to 25 cm apart
Height: 15 to 30 cm
Width: 30 to 60 cm
Maintenance Requirements: Low maintenance. Prefers well-drained, fertile soil with average moisture. Water regularly, but allow the soil surface to dry slightly between watering. Apply a balanced fertilizer every 2 to 3 weeks during active growth for best flowering. Deadheading is not required, but trimming back by one-third mid-season can refresh growth and encourage heavier blooming. Performs exceptionally well in heat and humidity.
