This heat-resistant, Heirloom lettuce produces tight clusters of medium green leaves shaped much like oak leaves. Its good flavour and tender texture make it a fantastic choice for home gardeners, especially for later spring planting. A versatile and reliable variety, Oakleaf provides a satisfying harvest of its beautifully shaped leaves.

  • Type: Heirloom Vegetable (Leaf Type)
  • Fruit: Medium green, oak-leaf shaped leaves
  • Features: Heat-resistant; tender texture; excellent flavour.

Lettuce is a nutrient-rich vegetable with a mild flavour. It is an excellent source of Vitamin K and a good source of Vitamin A (beta-carotene) and Folate. This lettuce also contains minerals such as iron, potassium, and manganese, in addition to dietary fibre and beneficial antioxidants.

  • Sowing: Sow as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring, then every two weeks thereafter to ensure a continuous supply. Sow about 3 mm deep in rows 45 cm apart.
  • Care: Lettuce is a sun-loving cool-weather crop that grows best in organic, well-drained soil. An even supply of moisture during the entire growth period is imperative for success.
  • Harvesting: You can harvest leaf lettuce by either pulling the entire plant or by cutting leaves from the main stem at least 2.5 cm above the base. This will allow the plant to sprout new leaves. Once lettuce bolts (starts to produce a rapidly growing flower stem), the leaves become bitter.
  • Germination: Germination occurs in 7-10 days.

For a beautiful and dependable lettuce that stands up to the heat, Oakleaf is an outstanding choice. Its unique leaf shape adds visual appeal to any salad, while its tender texture and excellent flavour ensure it will be a favourite on the table. This reliable Heirloom is perfect for extending your fresh salad season well into the warmer weather.
