Oncidium orchids are an epiphytic species having large pseudobulbs which rise up from a mass of thin white roots. The leaves, which emerge from the pseudobulbs, can get up to 2 feet long. Oncidiums usually flower in the fall.
Lighting: Place them in an east, west, or south-facing window lined with a sheer curtain to provide an appropriate amount of light.
Watering: Use lukewarm or room-temperature water and water when the growing medium is half-dry. Use a soilless orchid potting mix. In general, most Oncidiums need to be watered every 2-10 days during the growing season, depending on the thickness of the leaves. Those with thicker leaves and roots can be watered less frequently, since they have a better ability to store water for themselves.
