The light green pods are delicious steamed, stuffed or, in soups and stews. Seed can be soaked overnight before planting, this can speed up the germination to as little as 7 days. Warm soil is imperative for germination. Thin seedlings to 30-45 cm. To get a jump on the season, seed can also be started 5 weeks early indoors and then planted out after all danger of frost has passed. The pods mature quickly, they are often ready for harvest in as little as 3 to 4 days after flowering. Use a sharp knife to cut the pods from the plant when they are 5-7.5 cm long.
