Scientific Name: Camassia scilloides
Common Name: Atlantic Camas
Exposure: Full sun to partial shade
Blooming Time: May to June
Bloom Duration: 2 to 3 weeks
Fragrance: Light, sweet fragrance
Plant Growing Habit: Upright, clump-forming
Characteristics: A graceful North American native bulb with narrow, grass-like foliage and airy spikes of star-shaped creamy white to pale blue flowers. Each bloom features delicate yellow anthers that add subtle contrast. An excellent choice for native plant gardens, woodland edges, meadows, rain gardens, and naturalized landscapes. Highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other early-season pollinators, while also being resistant to deer.
Spacing: 15 to 20 cm apart
Height: 30 to 60 cm
Width: 15 to 30 cm
Maintenance Requirements: Low maintenance. Prefers moist, fertile, well-drained soil but adapts to average garden soils once established. Grows best in full sun to partial shade and benefits from consistent moisture during spring growth. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the bulbs can store energy for the following season. Fertilization is generally unnecessary in rich soils, but a light application of balanced fertilizer in early spring can encourage vigorous growth. Hardy and well-suited to Canadian gardens in Zones 4–8.
