From a tradition of simplicity and quality comes this Heirloom lettuce with a truly unique, triangular shape. The medium green leaves have a slightly nutty flavour with a crunchy heart, and they are perfect for use as a baby green. With its loose, upright form and a slow-to-bolt nature, this is a variety that shows the enduring wisdom of generations of gardeners.
- Type: Heirloom Organic Vegetable
- Fruit: Medium green, triangular leaves
- Features: Nutty flavour; crunchy heart; slow to bolt.
Lettuce is a nutrient-rich vegetable with a mild flavour. It is an excellent source of Vitamin K and a good source of Vitamin A (beta-carotene) and Folate. This lettuce also contains minerals such as iron, potassium, and manganese, in addition to dietary fibre and beneficial antioxidants.
- Sowing: Sow seeds in your organic, well-drained soil as soon as it can be worked in the spring, and then every two weeks thereafter to ensure a continuous supply. Sow about 3 mm deep in rows 45 cm apart.
- Care: Lettuce is a sun-loving, cool-weather crop. Thin seedlings to 25-30 cm apart in the row to give them plenty of room to grow strong. An even supply of moisture during the entire growth period is a simple but important key to success.
- Harvesting: You can harvest individual leaves or the full head by cutting at the base just below the lower leaves. Once the plant bolts and begins to produce a flower stem, the leaves will become bitter.
- Germination: Germination takes 5-10 days.
This lettuce is a testament to the old-fashioned values of craftsmanship and tradition. Like a handcrafted piece of furniture or a horse-drawn carriage, this variety is reliable and truly authentic. It brings a wholesome, no-fuss appeal to your garden, proving that the most satisfying things are often the simplest.
