A perfect fit for smaller gardens, our Organic Homemade Pickles Cucumber Seeds are a semi-bush variety that yields a large number of delicious picklers. This open-pollinated cucumber is a wholesome gift from the earth, producing medium green fruits with a crisp core and small white spines. It’s an excellent choice for classic dill pickling, or you can harvest the fruit at 4 cm long for natural, baby sweet pickles. With good disease resistance, it’s a simple, reliable path to a pantry full of homegrown goodness.

  • Type: Organic, Open-Pollinated
  • Fruit: 12.5-15 cm, medium green with small white spines
  • Features: Semi-bush type for small gardens; versatile for dill or baby sweet pickles; good disease resistance.

For the healthiest growth, cucumbers thrive in a wind-sheltered site with a rich, warm sandy loam. Plant seeds after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up to at least 18°C. Cooler soil can lead to poor germination.

Nurturing Your Plants: Sow seeds 1 cm deep, with 8 seeds per hill in hills spaced 120-150 cm apart. After the seeds sprout, thin to 3-4 plants per hill. For a head start, you can start seeds indoors in fibre pots 3 to 5 weeks before planting out. Avoid planting out until early June to prevent blossom end drop from cool nights. Cucumbers are shallow-rooted, so they need a consistent, even supply of water. Water early in the morning to prevent mildew on the foliage. Harvest cucumbers by cutting them from the vine with a sharp knife to avoid damaging the plant. Germination occurs in 7-10 days.

This is the perfect variety for a mindful gardener with limited space. Its semi-bush habit makes it manageable, while its robust nature and natural resistance ensure a beautiful harvest. The versatility of this cucumber, from classic dill pickles to sweet baby gherkins, allows you to fill your pantry with a delicious, homegrown, organic taste that you can feel good about.
