Approximately 1,200 seeds/pkt (850 seeds/gram) Heirloom

Cultivate a garden staple with our Organic Heirloom Chantenay Carrot seeds, a time-honoured variety first introduced in 1929. These orange-scarlet roots are smooth, evenly shaped, and free from eyes, with a sweet, meaty texture that makes them perfect for fresh eating and long-term storage. A reliable and pure choice for your wholesome garden.

  • Type: Heirloom Vegetable, Certified Organic
  • Root Size: 15 cm long, 2.5 cm thick
  • Features: Meaty, smooth roots; sweet taste; good for heavier soils.

Chantenay carrots will grow well in any open, well-cultivated, and deep garden soil.

Planting: Once the soil temperature rises above 7.5°C, sow seeds about 7-15 mm deep in rows spaced 45-60 cm apart. As the seeds are quite small, mixing them with some sand when sowing can help with even distribution. Stagger several sowings over the next few weeks for a continuous harvest.

Care: Keep the seedbed evenly moist during the 2-3 week germination period, but avoid soil crusting, which can reduce the number of seedlings that emerge. Thin the seedlings during the early stages of growth until they are 5 cm apart. Keep the plants evenly watered, weed-free, and avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers. Harvest any time after the carrot roots develop a good colour.

Growing this organic heirloom is an act of nurturing pure, wholesome food for your family. The Chantenay carrot’s ability to thrive in heavier soils makes it a forgiving and dependable choice, ensuring a rewarding harvest of sweet, meaty roots. It’s a classic for a reason, providing consistent quality and flavour that is perfect for enjoying fresh or storing for a taste of the garden throughout the year.
