General Information: Helichrysum italicum, commonly known as the curry plant, is native to the Mediterranean region. It thrives in dry, rocky, or sandy soils and is valued for its aromatic leaves, which impart a curry-like fragrance. The plant produces clusters of yellow flowers in summer that retain their color after drying, making them popular in floral arrangements. While it shares a scent reminiscent of curry powder, it is not related to the spice blend or the curry tree (Murraya koenigii) and is not typically used in traditional curry dishes. Instead, its leaves are used to flavor Mediterranean stews, meats, and vegetable dishes, often added during cooking and removed before serving. Helichrysum italicum is a tender perennial, suitable for USDA Zones 7–10, and is propagated by rooting semi-hardwood cuttings in summer.
